What are you called to?
Today, I have a fun announcement.
And rather than making this all about myself, my hope is to encourage you to use this as motivation or an excuse to do something exciting in your own life.
Keep on keeping on!
The Road is Calling
So… WE’RE HITTING THE ROAD!!
In 2017 I bought a 1987 VW Vanagon with dreams to travel in it. I had just gotten my first job of my real “career” and had some money being put away, but not much extra time.
Quickly I realized my original dreams of traveling extensively in the van weren’t panning out. The van needed work, and work needed me.
Fast forward nearly five years, and that dream didn’t fade. In fact, it would come back in waves that were impossible to ignore.
Lizzy and I got married, we worked extensively on the van, took a month long trip in 2021, and had the idea of further travel in the back of our minds.
Worry of the Unknown
It seemed like there was always something that kept us from taking that next step. Any time we thought deeper about it, that nagging feeling of worry clouded our minds. I finally realized that we would never feel like it was the right time.
This year (2023) we decided it was time to seek this journey. There was no better time than NOW, and we felt the subtle realization of time passing us by.
We set a goal, chipped away at it day after day, and suddenly we now feel things beginning to take shape. It felt like nothing was happening, and now things are happening all at once. (Sometimes it feels like a bit too much 😅)
The Next Chapter
The goal is to travel for a few months to various states, make some connections, meet new people, and decide where we’d like to spend more time in the future and eventually move to.
Our trip will primarily take place in the western side of the US, but truthfully we are open to anything. Our hope is to seek the Lord’s will in this next chapter of life and be led wherever the road leads!
Needless to say, we’re STOKED!!
What I’m Learniing
The biggest lesson learned in this is that things take time. We’ll never be fully ready. But I’d rather do something under prepared than to wait around hoping for everything to align perfectly. I’ve learned that “perfect” isn’t practical.
Dreams and aspirations that I’ve had since high school are coming around full circle and are just now coming to fruition. I put them away for years thinking they weren’t realistic – but I believe these ideas are full of purpose!
These ideas in your head might just be the blueprints to lead you to your next step.
- What’s something that you’re waiting for the “perfect” opportunity to arise?
- Will that opportunity ever be perfect? Or is it just wishful thinking?
- What things can you be doing NOW to prepare you for this thing?
Remember that the decisions you make today shape who you will be tomorrow.
Be reminded that time is fleeting and life is worth living! Give it a shot!
