A social media fast.

Earlier this week I reached a breaking point. I was completely fed up with my lack of progress and knew I needed to make a change.

With this in mind, I had the idea of deleting social media.

The idea has been presenting itself as all things that come to fruition seem to do.

It mades its way sneaking in my brain, just hinting at the fact that it was something I should act upon.

A Delicate Balance

Social media is a difficult thing. It’s something that I have had a good AND bad relationship with in the past. Some days I have control – and others I’m consumed.

As of lately, I feel that it has been doing nothing but harm for me.

I started the year off in a great mindset about CREATING on social media rather than consuming. This lasted for a few months and felt like a great balance. But since then, my consumption has increased and my creation has decreased.

It’s a slippery slope.

I made an interesting realization a couple weeks ago…

As creation goes up, consumption goes down. As consumption goes up, creation goes down.

It’s like a finely balance teeter-totter. You can’t do one without the other being affected.

I knew I needed to consume less. My mind has been clouded with distractions, ideas, and thoughts that are not serving me.

The Great Distraction

The greatest asset I need right now is focus and clarity, and social media is doing nothing to bring these into my mind.

What can start with a mindless opening of an app can turn into 5, 10, 15 minutes of time sucked into the black hole of content. It’s frightening.

I’m excited to take on this challenge and document how things change.

I encourage you to evaluate how your time or energy is spent using social media.

  • Are you using it for good?
  • Is it something that might not be helping you get closer to where you want to be?
  • Where could that time spent scrolling be used instead?

I’ll be off of Instagram for this month. Hopefully you know where to find me if you need me 🙂

Here’s to a great day and month ahead. Peace!

See you next Saturday.
