Choosing a “theme” for 2025
Earlier this week, I took a moment to think about the coming new year.
Rather than setting a specific goal, I thought about what “theme” I’d like to keep in mind.
Connection?
No.
Community?
Not quite.
Collaboration?
Spot on.
An Annual Theme
The past few years I’ve chosen a specific theme to focus on throughout the calendar year.
In 2024, my theme has been consistency.
Since I started my YouTube channel late 2023, I wanted to keep up with it as consistently as possible.
(In fact, I just hit my “1 year anniversary” of posting videos on my personal channel on Nov. 25th 🕺!)
During the start of my journey, I continued to hear about the importance of consistency when creating and sharing your ideas online — and it seemed to be the perfect fit for this year.
I’m grateful I chose that theme and stuck to it. It was a good mantra to keep in mind when perfectionism or low confidence got in the way. Just keep creating.
Overall, I’d give myself an 8/10 rating on being consistent this year.
My Focus for 2025
Now, as 2024 comes to a close, there’s a specific element in my journey that continues to surface. And if there’s anything I’ve learned throughout this whole life thing — it’s that I should pay attention to the things that come up time and time again.
They’re coming to my attention for a reason.
And it’s worth finding out why.
That resurfacing theme has been collaboration.
- Building and nurturing genuine relationships with people.
- Working with others towards a shared goal.
In 2024, I focused on community in a local sense. Working on building friendships in our new city.
But for 2025, I want to build national and global connections. And not only that — I want to collaborate and work with people from all over.
Going “Bigger”
As a creative, it can be easy to shrink into your own little bubble.
This has been especially true for me throughout my entire life. I usually prefer to be alone and to work alone.
But as I continue to progress in my craft, I’m beginning to see the necessity of working with others.
Not only does it make things more fun — it makes things bigger.
Bigger than yourself.
Bigger than a hobby or craft.
It turns what you love to do into a shared experience with people you resonate with.
I feel that I’m to the point of wanting (and needing) this kind of collaboration in my journey.
And honestly, I’m freakin stoked about pursuing it further.
Q:
As you think ahead to 2025 (which is a few short weeks away)…
What “theme” comes to mind?
Is there something specific you’d like to focus on in the coming year?
Action item:
Grab a notebook and write what ideas come to mind.
Decide on a theme in the next few weeks, and let it foster new growth in 2025.
Thanks for reading this week, and thanks for your feedback from last week!
Stoked to be incorporating more short, actionable newsletters in the coming months.
Happy Saturday!
