The 3 types of content to share your message.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about how I want to use this newsletter to provide as much value to each reader as possible.

I know that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other emails each week that are fighting for your time and attention.

So, if you take time each week to read the Stoke Seminar – I sincerely appreciate it, and look forward to helping you on your journey of using your passions to serve others!

Because that’s exactly what I’m working to build, and am aiming to simply document the things I’m learning during my own process.

Some weeks that might be through encouragement, but this week (and more often) I want to start sharing more tactical advice to equip you to start (or continue) sharing content that allows you to educate or connect with others in your area of stoke.

With this being said, I want to dive into the 3 types of content that you can begin sharing your experience, journey, or story through.

What is Content?

I like to think of “content” simply as a vessel for sharing something.

Today, content typically looks like anything shared digitally online.

“Content” is typically comprised of:

  • Video
  • Audio
  • Words
  • + Photos (typically accompanied by words)

Through these things, you can share just about anything.

Of course, content looks different for each person and each business.

What you decide to share through this content is entirely dependent on what lights your fire.

I won’t be diving into “how to find what you personally should create content about” today, but this is something I will be diving deeper into in the future. This can often be the hardest part for most people (myself included!).

Instead, I want to highlight the types of content that you should think about using to share your message.

Writing = Foundation of Content

In order to create any type of content, it all starts with writing.

  • Writing becomes a script or talking points for a filming a video.
  • Writing becomes a blog post, caption for a social media post, or email newsletter.
  • Writing becomes a podcast episode.

Just about every form of content (photos being the exception) begins with writing as the foundation.

Once you have a written idea, the route you choose to share it then branches out into various platforms.

Which Content Type is Right for Me?

The “best” type of content for you to share is unique to each person individually.

Do you love writing? Share your words as blog post, newsletter, or social media post with text only.

Do you enjoy filming, editing, and talking on camera? Share your ideas via videos on YouTube or as social media reels.

Do you enjoy talking and/or having conversations with others? Share your ideas via a podcast.

If you aren’t sure which is right for you – consider trying one of each and see what you like, dislike, and struggle with.

This is a great way to discover new skills to learn and explore further, eventually making you a well-rounded creator and business person.

High-Value Skills

Any and all of the skills it takes to create content are becoming more and more valuable – whether you’re using them for yourself, or using them to build your resume in your career.

“Content creation” is a great way to level up your skills and be able to better express your ideas, or the ideas of others.

Whether you have a vision for what platform you want to use or not, I’ve found that it’s been very beneficial to test each of the three to see what clicks for you personally.

Again, these three are:

  • Words (blogs, newsletter, captions, etc)
  • Video (YouTube, reels, courses, etc)
  • Audio (podcasts)

Give each of them a try, even if you just create them for yourself and don’t share them with anyone. Don’t worry about the gear. Don’t worry about it being perfect.

You can begin creating all three of these formats using a smartphone only.

From there, you can decide which one you could see yourself sustainably being able to create and share in a consistent manner.

Because when it comes to best connecting with your audience, you want to be able to do so consistently and reliably.

Takeaways for You

Think about which type of content you enjoy consuming…

  • Do you read books, blog posts, and newsletters?
  • Do you mostly watch videos on YouTube, Instagram, etc?
  • Do you often listen to podcasts?

The content you most enjoy consuming might be a great place to begin creating.

  • In order to create in any of these ways, what skills would you have to learn?
  • What are your biggest barriers when it comes to creating and sharing your passion and experience with others?

I’d love to hear your response to any/all of these questions! Feel free to reply, and I’ll give them a read + response.
