You are the niche.
When I quit my job in 2022, I was working a few side hustles.
These odd jobs provided some income, but I knew these weren’t the things that I wanted to continue to do forever.
I had to choose a business that I’d be willing to commit to for the “long term” and stick with for the foreseeable future.
Choosing “One Thing”
I spent years worrying about what exactly my “thing” would be.
I was terrified of pigeon-holing myself into something that I’d eventually want to change.
I knew myself well enough to know that wasn’t going to be sustainable.
And so… I spent way too long overthinking about what this business would look like.
Attributes of Personal Brand
Finally I learned about building a personal brand.
A business where:
- You teach what you know
- You share what you’re learning
- You “work in public”
- Your interests are the niche
- And you create content around the things that you love.
Your Brand as a Business
With this idea of a personal brand, things began to click.
I’ve always had too many hobbies and interests to only talk about a single one of them forever.
But if I was the niche…
My story would be my marketing.
The things I was learning would be my content.
And my tips, tricks, and solutions to problems would be my products.
Connection with Personal Brands
A lot of people share common questions, struggles, and goals.
And when you use the things that you’ve overcome or achieved as your personal story – you can sell the solution to others who are a few steps behind your current position.
Because people want to connect with other people.
They don’t want to give their money to another big branded business that they have zero personal connection to. (myself included)
They want to connect with someone who actually understands.
That’s what you’re able to provide through a personal brand.
A personalized product and message that connects with others who are similar to you.
Accessibility to Everyone
And the best part is… this business model is extremely accessible.
You’re probably already doing it to some extent.
Through creating and sharing content – you open up the door to build a community of people who share interests, stories, encouragement, and struggles.
And these people become your tribe from which you can learn and grow together towards a common goal. And this goal can be anything you personally feel called to.
And to get started, all you really need is a smartphone and an internet connection.
Being YOU
If you’re anything like me and enjoy a variety of interests, a personal brand is an amazing path to choose.
If your business name is your personal name – you choose the topics.
You’re in charge of what and how you present yourself.
That’s YOUR unique perspective that no one can steal or recreate.
No one can do it better than yourself.
And no one can compete with what you have to offer.
P.S. > If you’re interested in joining a community of like-minded people, I just opened up a Skool community for other creators, educators, & entrepreneurs.
I’m pretty stoked to pour more time and energy into this group this year.
I will be providing some free resources in the group, but the community aspect will be even better than anything I can personally contribute.
As of right now, the group is completely free to join.
