Wishing the time away.
When you work a job you dislike, you’re always looking forward to 5pm. Or Friday. Or the next holiday break. These times are great, but shouldn’t we feel excited about living EVERY DAY?
“Just a couple more hours, just one more day, just another week…” And the cycle continues week after week and year after year.
Dangerous Thinking
I didn’t recognize the danger in this way of thinking until I began living a life where every day was precious to me. Now, I look forward to Mondays. I look forward to “boring” weeks that are followed by holidays. Half the time, I’m unsure of what day of the week it actually is. Shouldn’t more people live like this?
The problem is that when we work at a job we dislike or are simply stuck in the mindset of always “looking forward” to the next break – we really are wishing the time away.
Gratitude Mindset
This way of thinking decreases our gratitude for everyday life. If we’re really only excited about Fridays, Saturdays, and maybe Sundays… that leaves Monday through Thursday as boring work days. But amazing things can happen any day of the week, you must simply be open to making the most of each day.
Can you imagine a world where everyone was actually excited about Monday mornings? I think the world would be a much more pleasant place to live. Every day is a miracle, yet it’s so easy to take it for granted.
Now, how do you go about overcoming this mindset of wishing the time away? I believe it begins with gratitude.
If the first thought in our mind on a Monday morning is “Ugh, I don’t want to work today” your mind defaults to negativity.
If your first thought in the morning is “Wow, another day to live! I’m thankful for each breath!” …your mind defaults to gratitude.
Living a life of gratitude is a life well cherished. Living a life of negativity is a life wasted away.
Choose wisely!
