Is silence awkward?
I have an important question that most people aren’t willing to consider.
What would you find, if you blocked out outside influence for ONE week?
No social media.
No news.
No gossip with friends.
No cheap dopamine.
What might you discover? What things might have gone missing in your life and mind?
If you’re willing to do what MOST other people aren’t – you’re in a position to become, achieve, and create what most people won’t.
Constant Connection
We live in a world where we’re constantly connected.
There is rarely a time where we are away from “the noise.”
It surrounds us at work, during play, in stores, restaurants, and coffee shops.
Embracing a moment of silence feels awkward and uncomfortable rather than welcoming and refreshing.
How dare a moment of silence disturb your day?
But what if this is exactly the problem?
A world filled with too much input, too many ideas, too many avenues to achieve success?
Each new guru on social media, YouTube, and advertisements are trying to sell you on the “next big thing” that you’ve been searching for.
“THIS is what you’ve been looking for.
THIS is what you were made for.
THIS is what’s going to finally work for you.”
But… what if it actually… isn’t?
What if the thing you’ve been searching for has been there all along?
I’m here to encourage you to think about taking an alternative route to “enlightenment.”
When was the last time you were alone with your thoughts?
When was the last time you listened to your own ideas?
When was the last time you took a moment to listen to your own voice?
Glorified Distraction
It’s amazing what we can learn online.
We can be connected to so many people in one easy to use platform.
All of these people are great, and typically have good intentions.
But most of these people are unknowingly clouding your own vision.
With each swipe of your finger – your soul is being crowded.
The ideas that you have. The dreams of the future. The vision for your mission.
The things that really matter get put on the back burner, while everyone else receives your hard-fought attention and focus.
Each moment spent contemplating someone else’s great idea is a moment that your dream is ignored.
If your focus is on someone else, you’re abandoning your own ideas.
And that’s the danger of social media. And the news. And sports. And “staying connected.”
It might just be glorified distraction from what truly matters to you.
And what truly matters to you is often a vehicle for serving others.
When you aren’t living in the means of what you’re meant to do – other people are suffering because of it.
Other people are missing out on what you have to offer.
What if the exact thing that someone is searching for hasn’t yet been created yet, because you’re too busy keeping up with the Jones’s?
You have value to share, in the things you’ve experienced, the education you’ve acquired, and the expertise you equip.
Someone needs your valuable insight more than they need another comment on their Facebook post.
Takeaways For You
So, what are some practical ways to disconnect from this noise?
Here are a few ideas for a week:
- Turn your smartphone into a dumb phone. Calls and texts only.
- Go for a walk (without your phone, or headphones). You’ll be fine 🙂
- Write each day. Put the pen to paper, or open up a blank notes page and start typing. (”Dear diary… it’s me again”) Shoot for 20 minutes of writing or typing.
- Stare at a wall (or the ceiling, or your feet). Embrace the awkward, it’s like being a kid again!
Before you know it, you’ll realize old ideas beginning to surface.
Try your best to capture these ideas, thoughts, visions, and goals.
You already have the answers you’re looking for, you just have to find them by writing to yourself.
Unplug from the constant source of distraction.
What you’re looking for is closer than you think.
It’s only found within.
Are you in?
p.s. Today marks 1 year since I started the newsletter. So grateful for each of you tuning in each week, and giving me feedback on what you’ve resonated with this year. It means the world to me, I sincerely thank you!! 🙏
