How to capture moments.
This week I made a cool discovery. While sorting through some boxes in our basement, I found one of my old notebooks. As I thumbed through the pages, I found my “first ever journal entry” dated 4-3-2013.
10 Years of Journaling
That marks 10 YEARS of writing down my thoughts in a journal. That’s so wild to me!
The first line began with:
“Dear Diary, so today I decided to try something new…”
I’m sure glad I decided to try that new thing.
My favorite part of journaling is reviewing the things that I’ve written in the past. And finding this first journal passage was such an encouraging reminder to me. So much has changed in those 10 years – yet my love for documenting memories remains.
The problems that I was dealing with at the time came and went. The struggles I was feeling were expressed. The things that I wanted to do were captured on a page.
Capturing Emotion, Ideas, and Goals
Even when a journal entry isn’t written on a “good” day – those are the pages I appreciate the most. The days where I am honest and truthful about how I am feeling or what I am going through. It reminds me that life isn’t always perfect, yet we keep on keeping on!
And then on the flip side… you can rejoice on some pages with excitement, passion, ideas, or great news of something that happened! I am able to remember the goals that I had, or the things I was excited about at the time. These pages remind me that I can be thankful and joyful in the little things.
It’s safe to say there hasn’t been a single day of writing in a journal that I regret. Life moves fast – and journaling helps to capture those fleeting moments.
Hopefully you’re encouraged to start, or continue your journal today. 🙂
